Here's your opportunity to join us on a grand tour! We have about 175 miles fully paved on traffic-free rail-trail for you! This is still a fully supported tour, complete with 5 nights of lodging, a sag ride from Grand Rapids (our gathering spot and tour end) to Ely (where the cycling starts), plus mapping, daily sag lunch, most breakfasts, and group dinner on the first and last nights out!
Arrive on your schedule, maybe in time for a self-guided ride around town, but please be in by 5 p.m. for group orientation, refreshments and tour dinner. We'll load your bikes into our sag truck in preparation for an early morning departure to Ely.
We'll sag across to Ely via motor coach, and deliver the group about 11 a.m. Your afternoon could include optional kayaking at Ely, or a bike ride of any distance you can complete before dinner!
We depart Ely on our bikes and head west on the Mesabi Trail to our lunch stop near the Soudan Mine. Our activity includes the mine tour, 2,400' under ground in the Soudan Mine! We'll finish the day with a short ride to our hotel.
This is a fun ride day on the Mesabi Trail! You'll ride across perhaps the longest aluminum bridge you'll ever ride over a bog on our way to Giant's Ridge Ski area. This ride has some of the most picturesque rail trail you'll find anywhere! We finish the day riding into Virginia and crossing the highest road bridge in Minnesota where the highway crosses an old open mine.
Our shortest day of the tour, but we have special events to make this more than just 33 miles on the paved Mesabi Trail between towns. You'll have the opportunity to tour Hibbing High School, a remarkable gem! In addition, we'll offer a shuttle ride up to the Hull-Rust Mine overlook of an active iron ore mine. The views are spectacular.
Our ride today is pushing 50 miles across the west end of the Iron Range on return to Grand Rapids, where the tour ends just after lunch. Thanks for joining us!
